The India Vaccinology Course(IND-VAC 2010)
Date: 20 - 30 September 2010 Venue: Community Health Training Centre (CHTC) Christian Medical College, Vellore THE INDIA VACCINOLOGY COURSE (IND-VAC 2010) Vaccines are one of the greatest success stories in public health, and are a critical component of the health security of a nation. With the production and introduction of newer vaccines world-wide, there are aggressive campaigns to introduce these vaccines into India. There is a need to conclusively establish that these vaccines are indeed required in India and that they cover the pathogens (serotypes) that are prevalent locally. The science of Vaccinology therefore emerges, and it is envisaged that there would be training needs for mid to senior level professionals in the health sector. An advanced course in Vaccinology will be held from September 20 to September 30, 2010, at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. The course is being organized by: Christian Medical College, Vellore with support from • Department of Biotechnology, India (DBT) Scientific Committee: • Dr. M.K. Bhan, Director, DBT Course details: OBJECTIVE : The course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Vaccinology, and strengthen the capacity within India in this field. The course will cover aspects of the field, from basic immunology, the process of development of a vaccine, the licensure and regulatory requirements, the process of introducing a new vaccine into a country, vaccine trials, and translation of research into policy. SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS: Participants (maximum 40) will be selected by the scientific committee. Preference will be given to participants with documented interest in Vaccine related research, laboratory work, projects or involved in vaccine trials. Attachment to an organization or institution which can be involved in such work will be an added criterion for selection. Expected impact of the course would at personal, institutional and national levels. Who can apply: Anyone working in the field of Vaccinology with knowledge of biology. The course is aimed at specialists in Infectious Diseases, paediatricians, physicians, research nurses, team members of vaccine trials, members of contract (or clinical) research organizations (CRO), vaccine industry professionals. Evaluation of the course: One year after the course, the participants will be required to provide feed back on their current position and work in the field of Vaccinology . Feedback on the impact of the course on their work, and the networks that they have established will be documented. Duration of the course— Residential; 10 days. Dates : Applications to be in by June 1, 2010. Location of the course : The course will be fully residential. The first course would be held in Christian Medical College, Vellore. Course fees: Tuition fees Rs. 10,500. This does not include board and lodging. Payment to be made on confirmation of selection.
